Effects of cow dung ash and calcium hydroxide on geotechnical properties of expansive and loose soil

The study is an investigation into the effects of CDA and Ca (OH)2 on geotechnical properties expansive (Sample A) loose soil B). experiments were designed to adding in various percentages by weight (5%, 15% 15%) dry with 5% constant (OH)2, which produces pozzolanic reactions samples. Sample A was collected at Moniya, Ibadan, B from polytechnic, Ibadan and, cow dung obtained a farm settlement Ilora, Oyo State, air dried then calcined 500 0C – 600 0C, after it sieved using 600µm sieve. samples subjected following laboratory tests; Natural moisture content, Particle (grain) size analysis, Atterberg limit test, Compaction California bearing ratio (CBR) test. NMC test shows that sample retains more water than given values 26% 6% respectively, particle analysis results showed has highest percentage clay passing sieve no. 200 (75µm) i.e. 62.86%, while 7.27%, this indicates high silt content are susceptible volume changes when wet. liquid plasticity index for 49% 28% respectively cohesionless soil. This its load capacity could be reduced AASHTO system classified as A-7-6, A-3. fair poor excellent good. maximum densities ranged 1.61mg/m3 1.87mg/m3 Optimum contents range 19.2% 16.36% respectively. CBR value varying 2.07%, 10.62% (0% & Ca(OH)2) , 12.69%, 16.77%, 31.41% thus: 32.7%, 27.06% Ca(OH)2), 12.09%, 16.2%, 16.74%. It observed Ca(OH)2 optimum soils will increase OMC thus reduce engineering properties.
